Health Care Surrogates

A healthcare surrogate is the person appointed to handle your healthcare decisions should you ever become incapacitated—in other words, unable or unfit to make them yourself. While this person will typically be someone close to you, such as a spouse, your healthcare surrogate is appointed to you—not necessarily by you. To ensure that you have as much say as possible in making crucial healthcare decisions, we recommend appointing someone to serve in this role and carry out your wishes.
